Chicago Fire ramped up emotions of their fans as they shared an animated post on Twitter shortly after season 8 premiered.
After so long, the long-awaited season 8 of "Chicago Fire" premiered on Wednesday night, and it was not the best time for fans of the show.
Luckily, season 8 brought a breath of fresh air to fans as we saw many of the firefighters escape to safety in a room in the factory's basement.
Unfortunately, that joy was quickly snatched away when it was discovered that Brian Otis Zvonecek was one of the firefighters who didn't successfully escape.
As revealed by TV Line He was seen unconscious and rushed to the hospital.
While the rest of the firehouse was waiting for news about his condition, a scene showed Cruz by Otis' bedside saying "I love you and I'm going to miss you" after which Otis died.
After the episode aired, PopCulture reports that Chicago Fire took to Twitter to post an animated GIF tribute to Otis with a caption that read:
"We miss you already, brother. #ChicagoFire."
Unknowingly, their harmless post would trigger several heartbroken fans.
In no time, fans rushed to reply to the tweet and express their hurt at the death of Otis. Even Chicago Fire account felt lost as they tweeted:
"Can't imagine what Cruz must be feeling like. Otis was his BROTHER."
This user replied to the tweet with a GIF calling the network a monster.
"You guys have turned me into an emotional crying wreck tonight."
While speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, executive producer Derek Haas spoke on Otis' demise and what it means for the show.
He explained that the decision to kill off Otis wasn't about contract negotiations but a way to spice things up for viewers.
He also dished on how Yuri Sardarov took the news of his character being killed off. He said:
"I called him to tell him, and as you can imagine, he was extremely gracious and just an awesome guy. So it was tough making that call, but I knew it was right for the show. I tried to make it not meaningless. "
